How to place adhesive tape in a tape gun. The best techniques

Categories : Adhesive Tapes

How to place adhesive tape in a tape gun? Certainly, tape guns aren’t difficult tools to use. There might be some small hidden pitfalls for those who have never loaded one, however.

This is not an insurmountable problem, though: should you not be able to find a way to place the adhesive tape in this manual dispenser, hypothetically, you could still utilize the double-sided adhesive tape, using something else to cut it.

The adhesive tape can, in fact, be cut with scissors or a cutter, or, only in the case of PVC adhesive tape, simply with your own hands (whereas, in the case of adhesive PPL tape, a blade is mandatory).

But, there is no doubt it: using a tape gun, when it comes to closing a lot of boxes one after the other, is rewarding in terms of speed, practicality, and results.

This is a tool which makes it possible to correctly and quickly apply adhesive tape using only one hand, without the need for other tools. Then, it is definitely worth learning how to place it in the tape gun the right way: just a few minutes of attention will save you a lot of time in the future!

The “anatomy” of a tape gun

What does a tape gun look like? Obviously, there are many different models, but the differences are absolutely minimal, and not particularly relevant in terms of usage.

These professional manual dispensers, unlike tabletop dispensers, usually have an ergonomic handle which makes it possible to hold the device comfortably. Above the handle the actual mechanism is found: on one side, at the top, is a rotating pin, which allows for the placement of the roll and makes it turn without friction.

On the other side is the actual tape gun. At the bottom there is a flap, which is intended to keep the adhesive tape taut and adherent to the surface above it. Finally, there is a small blade, sharp enough to cut the adhesive tape with only slight pressure.

Now, let’s have a look at how to place industrial double-sided adhesive in the tape gun!

The diameter of the adhesive tape roll

As you’ll be able to easily gather once you enter our custom double-sided adhesive tape e-commerce website, normal tapes designed to close boxes all have an inner roll of cardboard measuring the same diameter.

This is because there is a standard size which makes it possible, in most cases, to use any tape gun for any adhesive tape designed for the professional closing of packages, with only a few exceptions.

Warning: when buying the adhesive tape you’ll use in your dispenser, you will need to make sure that it does not exceed the maximum external diameter, thus being too large to be placed inside the tape gun.

How to place adhesive tape in a tape gun

Placing tape in a tape gun is easy. You’ll just need to place the tape gun on a table in front of you, lying on its side, with the handle facing towards you: the blade will be on your left, and the pin on which to place the roll will be on the right.

At this point, take a roll of tape and open it, lifting the adhesive up by about ten centimetres: hold the roll with the right hand, and raise the flap with your left, making sure the adhesive part faces you.

Now, all that’s left to do it place the adhesive tape into the special rotating pin, taking care to open the lower flap beforehand: the strong double-sided adhesive tape will need to pass through it.

Once you have placed the roll (possibly with a little pressure to push it in), you can close the lower flap and let the tape sit on the surface below the blade. The tape gun, at this point, is correctly loaded and ready to use.

How to use a tape gun to close boxes

Having outlined how to place adhesive tape in a tape gun, it is worth mentioning how to use this device to close boxes. It is very simple: holding the dispenser, just place its front up to a box, making sure the tape peeking out sticks there with just some slight pressure.

At this point, pull the dispenser towards you, and place the tape along the box wherever you need it to stick. Once that’s done, to cut the strong, industrial double-sided adhesive tape, you will have to slightly change the inclination of the dispenser, pressing the blade against it: this way, the tape will be cut quickly and comfortably.
