How to replace a price labeller roll, all the steps

For many businesses it is still essential to rely on a convenient, fast, and versatile labeller, which makes it possible to “shoot out” all the prices and the labels needed for the effective management of the shop: this is way, today, we will have a look at how to quickly and easily replace the roll found inside the price labeller.

Of course, the most modern labels are automatic, but there are still many sellers who prefer the practicality of manual price labellers, a so-called “price gun”, which is versatile and always ready to use... except for when the roll ends, of course!

It should be noted, however, that as far as maintenance and timing go, manual price labellers remain virtually unbeatable, requiring minimum effort from those who need to use this device.

But enough talking, let’s now have a look at how to change a price labeller roll: we will begin from the choice of the labels roll, based on the type of labeller and the type of result you want to achieve, and then outline how to insert the roll inside the device machine!

The type of manual labeller

Not all labellers are the same: this means that, before buying labels rolls online, you should make sure you understand what type of price labeller is the one you are dealing with. You can base your judgement on the brand and the model, of course, and search online for compatible rolls.

But, above all, it is best you make sure you understand which type of mechanism the labeller work with as, often, the rolls aren’t sold according to the models, but rather according to the latter characteristic.

It’s best you keep in mind, then, that there are simple and compact manual price labellers, used to print a single row label, basically with a maximum of 8 or 10 characters total. Those who choose these machines usually only need to print the price of the products to be labelled, without any other information.

Then, there are more complex labellers, which print two rows, offering the chance to print ten large characters below and ten smaller characters above: usually this double row is used to indicate, in addition to the price, also another piece of information, such as the expiration date, offering the possibility of pre-printing at the top of the label.

And, finally, there are the most complex price labellers, which can print three or even four rows, also printing alphabetical characters. What type of price labeller is the one whose labels roll you need to replace?

The labels roll type

Once you have identified the type of labeller it is best to understand what type of labels you want to print. Each price labeller is compatible with a certain range of labels: the Sato Kendo price labeller, for example, works with rectangular labels, measuring 21 * 12, with single row printing.

Sato Judo, on the other hand, prints on rectangular and shaped labels, on two rows, with measurements of 26 * 16.

In short, it is best to rely on the manufacturer’s indications, or possibly remember the format of the latest labels used! On our e-commerce website you will find both white labels and shaped labels, in different sizes, to meet the requirements of most price labellers, starting from the popular Sato models.

How to change a price labeller roll

These various price labellers have different characteristics, varying from model to model. Even within the same brand there are labellers requiring different steps to replace the label rolls.

In any case, the basic principle is the same, and once you have learned how to replace a label roll on one labeller, you can do it without major issues on all other types of labellers.

Where should you start? After making sure you have purchased the correct labels roll, you should open the flap where the roll is supposed to be inserted: it is typically a round compartment with a pin in the centre, on which the roll can turn to slide out the labels towards the ink pad.

At this point, you’ll also need to open the opposite end of the roll compartment: it is usually located in the front or front of the price gun. Once you have freed this opening, you will have to pass the beginning of the labels roll inside the price labeller, to get it out from the other side by about ten centimetres (3.9 in) or a little more; at this point, you can close the opening where you have placed the roll, which is the first one that was opened before.

Now, the beginning of the labels roll must be returned to the inside of the price labeller, so that it can be “grabbed” by the mechanism that, as it is connected to the manual “trigger” of the price gun, makes it possible for it to slide out.

Once the second opening is closed, and the strip of labels is placed in the correct opening, you can press the trigger to put tension on the roll and start printing one label after the other!
