How much does a labeller weigh?

There are many factors to take into account when purchasing a work tool, therefore a device which will be used regularly, in some cases even every day, for prolonged periods of time.

For example, a company working in the field of iron carpentry buying a new angle grinder, or maybe a restaurant buying new immersion mixers for its kitchen.

Considering the price, the quality of the materials used, ergonomics, the probable durability of the tool, its size, usage, aesthetics, as well as, of course, its weight is paramount: after all, these are objects that must be handled often.

When it comes to continuous work, an additional 100 g (3.5 oz) is enough to make any activity much more strenuous. Consider, for example, labellers, which, we have established, are used by a wide range of companies, both at the industrial and retail level: how much does a price labeller weigh?

Which models are the lightest, and which ones are the heaviest?

The regulations on maximum weight at the workplace

There are, of course, quite specific rules indicating the maximum weight that employees are allowed to lift at the workplace. These are regulations which limit the loads that a worker can be called to handle manually, so as not to endanger their health.

The main reference standard is attachment XXXIII to Legislative Decree 81/08, which in turn is based on ISO 11228.

Here it is specified that for possible occasional loads to be handled in the workplace the maximum limit is set to 25 kg (55.1 lb) for male workers, 15 kg (33 lb) for female workers and male teenage workers, and 10 kg (22 lb) for female teenage workers.

One thing must be clarified: it is a maximum set limit for “occasional loads”, and obviously not related to tools used regularly. It should also be noted that this limit is only identified in ideal situations, where the load handling can be carried out without twisting of the body, without sudden movements, and most of all safely.

In order to gain more precise assessments of the maximum weight limit for manual handling of loads at the workplace, taking into account not only age and gender but also the handling frequency, a tailor-made assessment is required, to be carried out during the drafting of the Risk Assessment Document.

How much does a labeller weigh?

Now let’s have a look at how much a labeller weighs. Of course, these are weights that are very far from the maximum limitations provided by law, after all this is a tool to be used with only one hand, sometimes for rather long periods of time.

Before having a look at labeller prices, in any case, here are some reference values for everyday objects, so that we can make realistic and exact comparisons.

Consider, for example, of smartphones, with mobile devices that, as we have become familiar with in recent years, have become increasingly more compact, presenting processors, cameras, and screens increasingly well integrated: well, a regular smartphone weighs about 200 g (7 oz).

The iPhone 13 Pro Max, to offer an example on the “heavier” side, weighs 240 g (8.4 lb), reaching 280 g (9.8 lb) once paired with a cover and screen protection. And now, let’s bring our attention to working tools: a hairdresser holds a professional hair dryer every day for a long time, which tends to weigh between 600 and 800 g (21.16 – 28.2 oz).

That said, how much does a price labeller weigh? Well, it obviously depends on its features. The Sato Kendo 22 price labeller, for example, for label printing on one row, weighs 280 g (9.8 oz).

The weight increases slightly in the case of the Sato Judo 22 labeller, which comes with its 300 g (10.5 oz), offering the ability to print characters on two lines, for more structured and complete labels.

Those needing to print on 3 lines should instead turn to more complex hand labellers, such as the Sato PB3 line labellers: in this case the weight – which can vary slightly from model to model – is about 460 g (16.2 oz).

The characteristics of price labellers

As you can guess, in the case of Sato price labellers, the weight of the device is a direct consequence of its functionality: as the number of printing lines available increases, the weight increases slightly as well, due to the addition of more elements.

To make the right purchase choice it is therefore necessary to wonder what the labels to be printed should be: will it take just one line, or will it take two or three lines? Should labels have a pre-printed line?

Is it necessary to be able to count not only on numbers, but also on alphabetic characters? By answering these questions, it will be possible to identify with certainty the most suitable Sato price labellers, choosing among the models present in e-commerce website dedicated to professional products related to adhesive tape and double-sided, industrial adhesive tape.
