Coloured adhesive tapes. Which ones should you choose?

Categories : Adhesive Tapes

Is it possible to choose any Pantone, or do you have standard colours to choose from?

Many companies which turn to our e-commerce site for the online sale of custom adhesive tapes ask us this question, hoping to understand how much they will truly be able to customize their tape’s colour.

This is no inconsequential question: when a company decides on its graphics style, it must always remain consistent and perfectly recognizable.

Therefore, the colour scheme chosen for your website, your business cards, your commercial sign, and your business must be repeated, in most cases, on the packaging as well, thus on custom adhesive tape.

Because of this, when ordering coloured adhesive tape, it is natural to wonder if it will be printed using exactly the indicated Pantone colour or if a “similar” colour will be utilized instead.

Let’s have a look in more detail at how the colour choice should be made for the online purchase of coloured adhesive tape and what will be the result delivered to the customer.

Pantone colours: a quick summary

To be clear, before considering how to best manage the request for the online printing of colourful adhesive tape, it may be useful to review what Pantone colours are, to avoid any confusion.

There is actually a very specific American company behind the name itself, Pantone LLC, one which deals with graphics and colour cataloguing. The method they use is the Pantone Matching System (PMS), which has become the international standard of colour management in the industry world over the years.

Developed in the fifties, the Pantone code is thus a way to classify colours in an exact way. Currently, Pantone counts over 2,100 different proprietary colours for graphics printing, and over 2,300 for fashion and furniture.

Choosing between any Pantone means having the freedom to pick between hundreds and hundreds of different colours, to be certain to get a customized adhesive tape with the colour you’re looking for, without any mistakes.

How to choose the custom adhesive tape’s colour

How should you choose the colour of colourful adhesive tape found for sale on our online website? The procedure is simple. Once you navigate to the product page of the industrial double-sided tape of your choice, before confirming the order you will need to specify the characteristics of the product.

Let’s consider, for example, Standard Custom Adhesive Polypropylene Tape. In the upper right, inside the appropriate box, you’ll be able to select the background colour, which can be white, transparent or brown, or even a customized one.

Should you choose a custom colour, it will then be necessary – when loading the file to be printed on the strong double-sided tape – to type in the comment box the colour (or colours) you wish to be printed on it. The Pantone code allows you to communicate the colour you seek in a unique and direct way: those who wish to print the three colours of the Italian flag, for example, can type “Fern Green Pantone 17-6153”, “Bright White Pantone 11-0601” and finally “Scarlet Red Pantone 18-1662”.

Having discovered how to order a personalized colour for your double-sided adhesive tape: now, we should consider if, indeed, our company is able to accept – and print accordingly – each and every Pantone colour chosen by our customers.

Colourful adhesive tape: printing the chosen colour

Upon reception of the order and the graphics file to be printed, our company receives precise information on the colour to be printed as well. As indicated on the page of our e-commerce dedicated to the general sale conditions, our company reserves the right to “vary the colour from the PMS (Pantone® Matching System) number approved for the project at a level of DELTA2000 <= 3”.

In the case of custom PVC adhesive tapes, however, variation can be up to DELTA2000 <=6. Thus, this means that we will get as close as possible to the colour chosen by our customers, and that the result will be consistent with the request.

However, there are some important aspects that should not be overlooked. Let’s consider for example adhesive tape with a white background: in that case, the final rendering of Pantone colours will be perfect.

In the case of adhesive tapes with different backgrounds, such as brown or grey, the final colour rendering may not be absolutely perfect, and this is obviously to be taken into consideration when choosing industrial double-sided adhesive tape and its background.

Finally, there are some special cases when it won’t be possible to print the colour our customers indicated. Think, for example, of our popular back-printed low-noise acrylic tape: this type of double-sided adhesive tape cannot be printed in silver or gold.

In no case, however, it is possible for us to print hexachrome or neon colours (PMS 801-814). We exclude these possibilities because we are cognizant that the final print would not be perfect because of technical obstacles.
